Description of Research and Professional Background

I currently work in the area of mathematical modeling and numerical analysis. I am interested in the study of micro-combustion. Specifically, I am working toward understanding how flames behave when they are confined to very narrow channels. This research has applications to the development of micro-engines and heat sources, both of which could be important in industrial situations or space exploration missions. I also have a background in human-environment interaction modeling. I am a member of the Resources Modeling Association and have worked with the Grand Canyon National Park, toward modeling the impacts of rafting traffic on the Colorado River. This research informed the development of a new Colorado River Management Plan in 2005.
