Internship Opportunities

Internship in Art/Design and Entrepreneurship

The Art Department would like to announce a new opportunity for students interested in an Internship.

This grant would provide resources to a student to intern during the summer at a design firm, marketing firm, or other relevant business enterprise working closely with an artist or designer.

As part of the selection process, students will submit an essay expressing their interest. They should have identified a business, that has already accepted them as a summer intern or that has a high probability of accepting them as an intern (paid or unpaid). Information about the organization they would be joining should be provided in their submission, which includes a letter of affiliation with said organization. These letters will indicate that the student’s selected organization is willing to receive them and allow them the opportunity to participate in the internship. Student essays will describe the opportunity and what they expect to gain from the experience.

Art faculty will manage the selection process of the summer internship program. Eligible students include Art majors and minors, students with other majors such as Business or Psychology or another discipline, who are pursuing a double major in Art/Design may also be considered. If the maximum number of applicants exceeds the number of available resources, the faculty will make the final decision to award the opportunity to the most deserving student.

Students awarded these grants will be required to keep a journal over the course of their internship. They are also required to maintain a portfolio of materials they have created or developed during this time. Upon return to campus and within 60 days of the internship completion, they will make an oral and visual presentation to the Studio Art faculty.

The award is up to a maximum of $10,000. Depending on the opportunity, domestic or international, these funds may be used to cover expenses related to airfare, ground transportation, housing and insurance. Proper documentation of expenditures, receipts etc will be expected of the recipient.
