Visual & Media Studies in 2012-14 Catalog

The Major

We are an interdisciplinary program offering both courses carrying the VMS designation and cross-listed courses from many departments. See Course Descriptions and fall 2011 program courses.

The Minor

The minor consists of 24 credits. Students are required to take VMS 101as a core interdisciplinary course, and one course each in the following categories:

  • History of Media and Visualization
  • Medium and Genre
  • Global and Cultural Perspectives
  • Theory

Students may shape the minor to enhance their major program and can do so in consultation with the director or other members of the Faculty Committee.

Thurber, an English bulldog, is the University's mascot.

He is named after Clarence Howe Thurber, University president from 1933-37.
