A Personal Choice

Linda Silveira, Associate Professor/Co-chair Biology Dept.

Professor Linda Silveira loves the personal side of teaching.

Transcript of the video interview:

"My name’s Linda Silveira, I’m a cell biologist, and I’m also half of the chairmen in the biology department at the University of Redlands.

"The faculty here are very focused on undergraduate education; that’s our primary interest and that’s what we want to do. We haven’t fallen into this because we couldn’t do something else; this is our first choice about what we want to do, and that’s where we put our energy and our passion and our interest. We try to help students realize their potential and support them when they need it, and scold them when they need it occasionally. We’re interested in that personal element, and that’s why we’re at a smaller school and in particular this school. I think it’s very collegial."

There are more than 1,700 trees on the University of Redlands campus.

In April 2010, it was designated a Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. Redlands is among just three other colleges or universities in California to receive this designation.
