Redlands has one of the lowest student/faculty ratios for all schools in this category at 11 students per faculty and one of the highest percentages of classes with fewer than 20 students. Our academic reputation / peer assessment score also increased this year.
Fulbright Awards
The University of Redlands has produced 15 undergraduate Fulbright scholars in the past six years. The “Chronicle of Higher Education” and the Fulbright Commission lauded Redlands for producing significant numbers of undergraduate scholars.
This is the second time in five years that the University has received a Fulbright “Top Producer” recognition for the United States. Seven finalists are currently competing for a diverse array of placements in countries, including Iceland, Taiwan, Mexico, Guatemala, Finland, Norway and Spain.
The J.W. Fulbright awards are the highest and most distinguished awards granted by the Congress of the United States, through the U.S. Department of State, to a graduating University senior. Named after J. William Fulbright, the longest serving chairperson of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, these awards designate the selected applicants as “student ambassadors” for the United States. Students awarded Fulbrights are provided the financial and administrative support to either teach or conduct research in one of over 100 nations, for a year, abroad.
Each applicant must choose a single country and whether they wish to teach or conduct research. Skills in the local language are often a very important criteria. The competition is incredibly arduous and students are first reviewed by a University faculty committee, next a select Fulbright committee of national experts reviews each application and submits only the very top students to the country selected, and finally a committee of individuals from the country to which the student is applying chooses the award winners. It is the final decision of the overseas committee and the Fulbright Commission that decides who will receive these awards.
