Dean, Continuing Studies
Edwin T. Callahan, Ph.D.
Dr. Ed Callahan is the interim dean of Continuing Studies, which he is responsible for launching. He stepped into this role after serving as a lead consultant on the team that planned and created the program.
As a consultant, his practice focused on strategic planning, quantitative and qualitative analysis, development of metrics and performance indicators and aligning internal operations with marketing programs.
Prior to starting his own practice, Dr. Callahan was chief operating officer of a Silicon Valley marketing consultancy whose clients included some of the best-known names in global technology. His firm was profitable throughout the tech downturn and was eventually sold to a London-based holding company. Dr. Callahan stayed to guide the merger integration through to a successful conclusion.
Before that, Dr. Callahan was the chief administrative officer at Stanford University's largest academic unit, the School of Humanities and Sciences, where he was responsible for a $214 million budget and 550 employees. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, and honed his business skills in the Advanced Management Program at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.
At the University of Chicago, his doctoral research was on the relationship among religion, law and politics in late medieval Europe. After earning his degree he served as a lecturer for four years, teaching both history and literature courses.
