To commemorate the anniversary of the American Civil War, the Lincoln Memorial Shrine and the University of Redlands will present “1863: The Turning Point, A Civil War Symposium” from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21 and 9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Sept 22 at the Lincoln Memorial Shrine and on campus at the University of Redlands.
This event will feature several scholars from across the U.S. who will discuss the political developments and battles that altered the course of American history. The speakers will include Frank J. Williams, retired Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Rhode Island; J. David Hacker, associate professor of history at the University of Minnesota; Kathleen Feeley, associate professor of history at the University of Redlands; Don McCue, director of A.K. Smiley Public Library and the Lincoln Memorial Shrine in Redlands, Craig Symonds, professor emeritus of history at the United State Naval Academy; Joan Waugh, professor of history at the University of California, Los Angeles; and Hans Davidson, physician and executive director of the Southern California Medical Museum in Riverside.
The cost of the event is $115 for members of the Lincoln Memorial Association, and full-time undergraduate or graduate students with a student ID will be admitted for $85. The price includes two continental breakfasts, a lunch, a dinner and access to all speaker sessions.
