The Dia de Los Muertos celebration is open to the public. This year, we will feature Ballet Folklorico from a local children’s group as well as face painting and various kids activities. An elaborate Altar de Muertos will be displayed; community members are encouraged to bring pictures of loved one to commemorate. Bring a white plain t-shirt for free printing.
Dia de los Muertos (November 1-2) is celebrated in many regions to commemorate the lives of those who have passed away. In many countries and cultures, Nov. 1 is dedicated for deceased children and Nov. 2 for deceased adults. Celebrated differently in each country, all have the common tie of placing an ofrenda for the deceased. Dia de los Muertos is widely seen as a way to remember a loved one, as opposed to a religious tradition. It is believed that the deceased come to visit their loved ones during this time.
