Sept. 17, 2008 -
Bulldog Athletics are fully underway this fall, and many of the teams have received regional and national limelight so far this month.
Men's water polo ranks No. 16 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Varsity Top 20 poll and No. 1 in the CWPA Division III poll with a 7-3 record. The Varsity Top 20 includes all divisions whereas the Division III poll ranks only Division III institutions.
Women's soccer owns a 3-1-1 record as of Sept. 17 and has faced a tough schedule thus far. The Bulldogs faced No. 9 Washington University (MO), tying the Bears 0-0. On Sept. 12, Redlands fell at No. 18 UC Santa Cruz 2-1, which stands as the team's lone loss this season.
Football opened up its season against the University of Dubuque with a No. 25 ranking in the D3football.com national weekly poll. Redlands controlled the tempo of the game throughout and crushed the Spartans by a 46-9 final and earned a No. 23 ranking for the week of Sept. 15.
Men's soccer has faced one of the toughest schedules in all of Division III, playing three teams that have been or are currently ranked in the 2008 Top 25 poll released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The team's lone win this year came against Principia College (IL), crushing the then-23rd-ranked Panthers 6-1.
Rolling out with an equally tough schedule, the women's volleyball team played its first five games against teams ranked within the top 12 in the country. With a young and talented team, the Bulldogs look to make a mark in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play.
Finally, the men's and women's cross country teams opened their seasons on Sept. 13 by hosting the Redlands Invitational. The women's team picked up a fourth-place finish overall while the men's team garnered a seventh-place team finish.
